Civil Disobedience

Civil Movement Comparison
There were several events that transpired during the Civil Rights movement. There were also several people that had a great affect toward the Civil Rights movement. Mohandes k. Ghandi gave a speech concerning the Nonviolent Resistance. Martin Luther King Jr. was also a significant role model who was once arrested for loitering. However, Martin did not let that stop him from showing the people the relationships between blacks and white people. People like Ghandi, and Martin showed us that sometimes rebellions must be made for a bigger purpose. Although the civil disobedience occurred a lot in the early 1900's, sometimes it also happens in modern times. There were three specific men who were able to bring out the changes in the world: Henry David Theorou, Mahatma Ghandi, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Ghandi begins by saying “There are two ways of countering injustice.” He suggests that in order to counter it, both sides will be sacrificed to make it fair. He uses words such as pride, bad tempered, might and etc, to convey that humans are controlled by their emotions. Ghandi was a young lawyer and he wanted to establish the rights of Indians. Racism was generally an enormous factor that created war during the Civil Rights movement. Ghandi wanted to explain that war depends and is triggered by two different sides. King also believed that the government was somewhat unfair and had to be dealt with. They believed that the law was manipulated in a way to control the people. Of course, Violence was also portrayed in such a way where only one side often was often injured or killed. That is why Ghandi and King countered injustice. Ghandi wanted to create a place that included peace.

Ghandi used the method of ignorance and peace to escape the trap they were in, set by the governement. Ghandi refused to cooperate with the government because they were unfair and full of injustice. Which is why he explains the second method called the satygaraha. This involves one side prepared to sacrifice themselves in order to prevent this war. When he explains this method, in order to counter injustice, he speaks to the government and how ludicrous it is to manipulate people and cause war by benefiting the anger between both sides. The nonviolent resistance is sharing with the government, that its allowed to control us with love and justice. However, if it was with pain and suffering, that is what triggers the anger emotion. Once it is triggered, people start to act with rage and that is exactly how battles and wars begin. Ghandi didnt want that so he used two methods to escape those battles and wars.

Henry David Thoreu's idea of his future world was really similar to Ghandis. They both wanted to create a world, similar to the utopian society. They called this world Swarja. It was a system of beliefs in humanistic morals in order to accomplish the non violent act.Civil Disobedience started with the Henry Davids Thoreou's influnential deeds. He influenced notable figures, by political thoughts and actions."I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government.” Ghandi had said this to show what he truly wants. He doesn't want to abolish the government but he wants to create a new government so that people can enjoy happiness through his philosophy.

King, however, didn't mind the presence of the government because he believed it wasn't the governments fault that the world was corrupted. He believed if the law had a little change, it can also change the relationship between the people and the government. His philosophy was all based on Christianity, while Ghandi was more of a humanisitic philosophy. Ghandi wanted to change and reform everything about the government because he thought it was too corrupted. But they were both against violence which is why the non-violent resistance was held. King used the law/ constitution as a positive factor while Ghandi viewed this as destruction. Either way both ways made a huge contribution to the world and brought many changes.
If it weren't for people like Ghandi and Martin Luther King, blacks and whites would still be conflicted with the idea of hatred they have towards each other. The fact that two different cultures are able to interact with each other is amazing and is truly a beautiful thing. Blacks and whites would still be angry today and it would cause a total mess. Three different types of views brought it all together and created a stable relationship for everyone. Although, there might still be some people that hate each other such as the Ku Klux Klan. It still a huge difference from the 1900s. “An unjust law is a code.” This is what King has said to show how huge injustice. All three of these men were able to accomplish whatever they wanted to accomplish.

In the final words of the speech, he summarizes that as long as we live, they dont mind what the government does. Ghandi ensured that there will be no harm as long as the government does their job. They basically said they would never obey until they die. All three notable figures, Henry, King, and Ghandi proved this and utilized these words to simply attack and call this a civil disobedience. A civil disobedience where people can rest without hearing racism spouting everywhere. That is what they have accomplished.
